Study conducted by BOMBAY SAPPHIRE examines how B.C. celebrates the holiday season
VANCOUVER, Nov. 6, 2013 /CNW/ - When it comes to celebrating the holidays in British Columbia, West Coasters prefer to keep it low key. A recent survey conducted by BOMBAY SAPPHIRE reveals that the majority of British Columbians opt for sit down dinners (53 per cent) and small intimate parties (50 per cent) over larger gatherings or parties. In addition, when it comes to planning the guest list, family (77 per cent) and close friends (58 per cent) trump an extended group of friends (18 per cent) and colleagues (10 per cent) almost every time.
"British Columbians love to celebrate the season with family, friends, and neighbours, and we do it with style by mixing new traditions with the classics," said Jean-Sébastien Dupuis, winner of the GQ/Bombay Sapphire 2013 Most Imaginative Bartender Competition B.C. and Bar Manager at Homer St. Cafe and Bar. "When it comes to being a fantastic host over the holidays, B.C. residents place food, music, and great festive cocktails at the top of their list for ensuring yuletide cheer this season."
With 28 per cent of B.C.-residents agreeing they like to try new cocktails over the holidays, it's the perfect time of year for hosts and hostesses to get creative with the bar menu. However, coming up with new cocktail recipes can sometimes be difficult, so BOMBAY SAPPHIRE has teamed up with Dupuis to develop new cocktail recipes tailored to the tastes and preferences of British Columbians.

This recipe combines cranberry and fir tree to create a taste that screams holiday while also highlighting two local ingredients, which helps support the local economy while also pleasing the 56 per cent of B.C.-residents who like to incorporate local ingredients in their cocktails.

The combination of two seasonal favourites, eggnog and maple syrup, creates an explosion of flavours and provides guests with a cocktail they're dying to taste (46 per cent of B.C. residents claim to be interested in trying a cocktail with eggnog flavours). What's more, this recipe is easily batched ahead of time, limiting the amount of work required when guests arrive providing more time for socializing.

From October 9th to October 10th 2013 an online survey was conducted among 1,487 randomly selected Canadian adults who are Angus Reid Forum panelists. The margin of error—which measures sampling variability—is +/- 2.5%, 19 times out of 20.
