Bridgewater Continues LTE Momentum with Five Trials Confirmed for 2010
EPC 500 'control-plane-in-a-box' system provided to LTE partners and five major operators in Asia Pacific and North and South America
BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 15 /CNW/ - Mobile World Congress Hall 1 Stand 1F47 - Bridgewater Systems (TSX: BWC), the mobile personalization company, today announced that the Bridgewater(R) EPC 500, a trial-ready 'control-plane-in-a-box' system for the LTE Evolved Packet Core (EPC), is gaining significant market traction with partners and five major operators globally.
News
- Building upon its multimillion dollar LTE win at MetroPCS
(http://www.bridgewatersystems.com/2009-News-Releases.aspx?newsid
=371), Bridgewater is providing its new EPC 500 system for
LTE trials with five Tier 1 mobile operators in Asia Pacific and
North and South America.
- The company has successfully completed extensive interoperability
testing with LTE components provided by its 4G partner and
interoperability ecosystem including: the Mobility Management Entity,
and Serving and Packet Data Network Gateways.
- Bridgewater is continuing to expand its partner and interoperability
ecosystem to accelerate the industry's evolution to LTE. The company
is participating in the MultiService Forum LTE Interoperability event
in Germany in March which is supported by China Mobile, Vodafone
(LSE: VOD), and Verizon (NYSE: VZ). The event will validate Home
Subscriber Server (HSS) and Policy Control (PCRF) interfaces for
multi-vendor deployment strategies and interworking with non-3GPP
networks.
- The Bridgewater EPC 500 is an integrated LTE system that provides
subscriber and device data management, policy control, and
interworking functions for the Evolved Packet Core. Specifically
designed to support trials and small to medium scale deployments, it
features the Bridgewater(R) Home Subscriber Server and Policy
Controller, anchored by Bridgewater's Subscriber Data Broker(TM). It
is pre-integrated on a hardware platform and fully compliant with
3GPP Release 8 standards.
- It enables mobile operators to:
- Implement smart subscriber, service, and policy controls to manage
the complexities of exponential mobile data traffic growth, and
millions of subscribers, devices, and applications;
- Rapidly and cost-effectively launch LTE trials and early
deployments up to 100,000 subscribers in days using a fully
integrated and tested EPC system to support functions such as
subscriber and service modeling, roaming, and quality of service
management; and
- Easily migrate to large scale commercial deployments. The EPC 500
can also support migration to separate HSS and PCRF platforms in
order to meet large scale commercial deployment requirements.
Quotes
Gabriel Brown, Senior Analyst, Heavy Reading
"The ability to support a diverse mix of delay sensitive, rich media services alongside best effort Internet access is critical for operators seeking to attain attractive, blended, margins on all-IP LTE networks. 3GPP-defined policy tools are emerging as central to this capability because of the role they play in enabling operators to balance traffic growth with demands for service quality across different sets of applications and customer segments."
David Sharpley, Senior Vice President, Bridgewater Systems
"Bridgewater's strategy of focusing on the LTE control plane including the Home Subscriber Server, Policy Controller and interworking functions positions us well for 4G deployments and trials in 2010 and beyond. Our early success with the EPC 500 integrated 'control-plane-in-a-box' system coupled with our deep expertise in large scale deployments across all mobile access technologies is giving us a significant competitive advantage in the market."
