TORONTO, April 28, 2014 /CNW/ - The Collective of Survivors and Victims of 1972 Hutu Genocide in collaboration with Canadian Centre for International Justice (CCIJ) announces the first international conference on the first documented genocide in East Africa. This genocide was committed in silence and without prosecution or punishment, by Michel Micombero Tutsi dominated Burundi Government, who arrested and executed more than 300 000 men and women comprising public servants, businessmen/women, priests, teachers, students etc, whose only crime was being Hutu or presumed. To date, these individuals still lie forgotten in mass graves, some of which were deliberately hidden beneath the construction of public infrastructures, such the Burundi International Airport etc; perpetrators and masterminds still walk free; some live in democratic countries like Canada and USA .
To seek justice, healing, awareness to public and dignity for victims, survivors will testify during the conference of what they have seen and lived.
