Brasseurs du Monde launches its Spirits Line including the strongest beer ever bottled in Canada!

SAINT-HYACINTHE, QC, May 29, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Creating extreme beers is an art mastered by very few brewers the world over.

It's one thing to allow the alcohol content of a beer to rise above 15%, but quite another challenge to make the end product a pleasure for the palate. Dominic Charbonneau, head brewer of Brasseurs du Monde, succeeds in reaching this sought after balance.

And not only once, but twice!

Indeed, he pampered two extra strong beers for more than a year. They are ready and awaiting release at Brasseurs du Monde's 3rd anniversary celebrations, to be held Saturday, June 7th at the brewery in Saint-Hyacinthe (Qc).

These two remarkable beers are offered in attractive and dressed-up, wax-sealed ceramic bottles.

Élixir, measuring 17.3%, was developed using a wide variety of spices and aromatic herbs. The result: a caramel-colored, full bodied malt liquor whose mellow, malty taste and honeyed texture combine with smooth and complex aromatic flavours to end on a very low bitterness.

Mauvaise Influence, weighing in at 21%, is the strongest bottled beer in Canada. Period. Inspired by American brewers, who were the first to push beer fermentation to its extreme limits, this brew presents more intense flavours that are somehow reminescent of sweetish burnt caramel, an intense porter and caramelized coffee. The overcooked marmelade aftertaste of its bitterness bears witness to its generous hopping.

These two extra strong malt liquors, whose alcohol level is less detectable than one would expect, are without noticeable effervescence and best sampled close to room temperature in a cognac style glass. The Spirits Line can also find its place paired with desserts and powerful cheeses. People will enjoy perceiving the fine flavours present in these extra strong malt liquors, as they are the work of a gifted craftsman. They will age for many years and, once opened, should keep for many months.

Stemming from long and complex processes, the Spirits Line beers will be available in limited quantity (two bottles per person) directly at the brewery on June 7th, before eventually finding their way to the market.

Following a Gold medal at the 2014 World Beer Cup in Denver, and a Gold at the World Beer Awards (London, September 2013), Brasseurs du Monde is proud that L'Exploité is considered the best sweet stout in the world by experts. Brewed with coffee and chocolate, it's a one of a kind beer. The WBA also awarded L'assoifé -10- an Americas Silver Award in the Abbey Tripel category. At the 2012 WBA, Brasseurs du Monde's Big Ben Porter was awarded Gold for Best Porter in the World and the Saison Tradition received a Gold medal during the Mbière Greg Noonan 2012 competition at the Montréal's Mondial de la Bière.

Four prestigious international awards in less than three years: a unique level of acknowledgement reached by such a young brewery. It just so happens to be one of the biggest craft breweries to launch operations in the recent craft beer history of the province of Québec.

Brasseurs du Monde can boast about offering the biggest beers selection for such a young business with 45 different beers, including more than 20 in regular distribution. The products are available in 700 stores, bars and restaurants throughout Québec.
