MONTRÉAL, Oct. 15, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) is delighted to congratulate an exceptional lawyer from their Montréal office, Suzanne Courchesne, who has been appointed Superior Court justice by the Minister of Justice Peter Mackay.
"It brings me great joy to see one of our most outstanding lawyers advance to this level and I congratulate her on this prestigious appointment. Her legal expertise and integrity are defining qualities of her commitment to the practice of law and I have full confidence that they will prove to be invaluable assets to the Superior Court of Québec," said John Murphy, Montréal regional managing partner. ''In our long and successful history as Canada's oldest and largest law firm, serving both Canadian and international clients, BLG has always been committed to providing exceptional counsel. Suzanne Courchesne exemplifies that,'' he added.
Courchesne joined BLG in 2000 and has experience in many areas of the law with 25 years in the field. She leaves the Montréal office of Borden Ladner Gervais, where she was Regional Leader of the Health Law Group for the past six years.
"My new position within the Québec judicial law system is one that I take on wholeheartedly,'' stated Courchesne. "Although I am saddened to leave my colleagues and practice at BLG, I know I leave the health law group in very capable hands and I am enthusiastic to take on this new and exciting chapter of my career.''
Her practice included litigation in civil and professional liability matters, in the hospital sector, acting as defence counsel for healthcare facilities in legal proceedings, including class actions, as well as managing major litigation files and pleading numerous hospital liability and health law cases. In addition, she acted as legal advisor to institutions in the health and social services network with respect to the legislative and regulatory framework governing their operations. She advised her clients in this network on issues such as the protection of personal information, complaint management, consent to care, ethics, risk management and the role and responsibilities of managers of healthcare facilities. She also has expertise with aviation matters in defence, and with class actions involving the loss of personal information.
Courchesne was selected by her peers for inclusion in the 2015 edition (and since 2011) of The Best Lawyers in Canada® (Personal Injury Litigation). She was recognized in the 2013 edition of The Canadian Legal Lexpert® Directory (Medical Negligence) and as ''Litigation Star in Québec'' in the 2014 edition of Benchmark Canada – The Definitive Guide to Canada's Lending Litigation Firms & Attorneys (Health).
