MONTREAL, July 7 /CNW Telbec/ - Boralex Inc. ("Boralex" or the "Corporation") is pleased to announce the submission of a proposal for two wind farm projects - in partnership, respectively, with the La Côte-de-Beaupré and Témiscouata regional county municipalities ("RCM") - in response to the call for tenders governing the purchase of 250 MW of wind power resulting from community projects.
One of these projects, the La Côte-de-Beaupré community wind farm, proposed by Boralex and the La Côte-de-Beaupré RCM, is located on the Seigneurie de Beaupré land, to which the Séminaire de Québec has sole title. Visual, noise and environmental impacts of this site, which is located well away from any urban or residential zones, are virtually non-existent. The proposed project would also benefit from the prior experience of Boralex in wind farm development on this land with the Seigneurie de Beaupré wind farms, acquired through execution of electricity supply contracts awarded in a previous call for tenders for 2,000 MW of wind power.
The other initiative, proposed by Boralex and the Témiscouata RCM, is the Témiscouata community wind farm project. Located on public land in the municipality of Saint-Honoré-de-Témiscouata, this project leverages the proximity of transmission lines and the absence of any permanent residences on the proposed site.
"Two key factors in the development of these wind farm projects have been the willingness and the cooperation shown by the La Côte-de-Beaupré and Témiscouata RCMs," pointed out Patrick Lemaire, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boralex, adding, "Boralex hopes to continue its wind farm development work in Quebec through these two projects."
Installed capacity for each of the two facilities will be 25 MW. Both projects enjoy strong support from their respective local communities, as well as exceptional wind resource, as demonstrated through several years of study. Should those bids be accepted, the wind turbine technology will be provided by Enercon, a Quebec-based wind turbine manufacturer whose expertise is renowned worldwide.
