TORONTO, April 3, 2012 /CNW/ - BLD RESTAURANT TORONTO-, is very excited to announce the appointment of Executive Chef, Hans Vogels. Vogels' unique approach to food uses only the finest, seasonal, local ingredients and is evident with every delicacy he prepares. He is very diligent and follows the "ocean wise program" when sourcing our fish including line caught albacore tuna/harpoon swordfish/ to Organic Irish Salmon farmed in glacier fed waters. Vogels' passion and inspiration is derived partially from the kitchens and people he has spent time working with, Susur Lee and Marc Thuet among them. Vogels also has held prestigious appointments as the Executive Chef of the Spoke Club and most recently, executive chef at the Turf lounge.
With the arrival of Hans Vogels comes the launch of the new spring /summer menu, BLD celebrating its second year of serving unique creative dishes, and has always prided itself on offering distinctive yet classic twists on everything from appetizers to desserts. "we wanted everything on this new menu to reflect our unique imprimatur on the Toronto food scene, it's what our customers love about us and why they keep coming back" says Lynda Angelucci owner. She goes on to say "diners can expect only the freshest prepared meals with a modern edge that would thrill the palette of any discerning foodie and our daily features aim to "WOW".
Appetizers at lunch include Salt and Pepper fried calamari with a piri piri aioli, (at Dinner w/ truffled squid ink), followed by a Japanese inspired Fish and Chips prepared with tempura salmon with aspiration/wasabi tartar sauce and taro chips, or a meticulously prepared house made lasagna with each layer filled with foraged mushrooms/roasted garlic and finished with a Montforte Toscano cheese.
Dinner appetizers include a delicate salmon sashimi rubbed with a spiced ash served with a white miso vinaigrette, horseradish oil and crispy shallots. Or you can whet your appetite with the truffle chicken liver parfait which melts in your mouth as you enjoy this with port wine jelly and housemade cranberry foccacia.
Our signature steak is a 10 oz Ontario dry age Angus strip loin grilled and served with beefeater fries. Also on the menu is an Ontario crispy skin trout served with Canadian grains/smoked sunflower seed pesto and goats milk yogurt, Duck breast on top a wild rice crepe with blueberry hoisin soy and marinated foie gras, house made ricotta gnocchi are soft pillows of goodness, the sauce of pomodoro tomato covered with Ontario burrata.
Our Wine List is ever changing to enabling us to offer great selections at very reasonable pricing to accompany any of the globally inspired menu items and pairings of bold flavors.
Innovative Tapas style bar snacks available all day long include offerings such as Korean pork tacos with kimchi, tempura clams with wasabi aioli, bruschetta poutine, foraged mushroom crostini, tuna tartar, available daily, for $5 each.
Zorian Kwasnycia, recently written up in the globe and mail for his "hangover cocktail" creates a daily martini ($9) in addition to our cocktail list.
Our modern contemporary yet comfortable atmosphere designed by "1point0 design" and has been written up in Contemporan magazine, Art and Travel , Designlines and Canadian interiors and has been described as "new york loft meets LA freshness in old Toronto" The design is sleek chic and inviting. Vintage black and white movies play on the wall in the west room which is visible throughout with cool music playing in the background. BLD offers a reprise from the pizza and pasta choices in the area.
Open daily Monday to Friday for Breakfast, in our Takeout/express café area 8am-10:30am =B
Lunch is served in the dining room Monday to Friday 11:30am-2:30pm and gourmet Takeout in the Express/Cafe =L
Bar Menu available daily with $5 bar snacks and Daily Martinis $9
Dinner service is from Wednesday- Saturday 5:30 - 10pm, =D
Sunday Brunch 11 am - 3pm
