New stores create interactive studio space where photo lovers can find inspiration and make the most of their memories
ETOBICOKE, ON, July 22 /CNW/ - Black's Photo Corporation, Canada's premier national digital imaging retailer, debuted today Ontario's first experiential digital imaging store at Sherway Gardens Mall in Etobicoke. The new retail concept introduces a paradigm shift in the company's, and the industry's, approach to photo retailing in response to an increasingly interactive, digital age.
"Black's new retail store concept was developed to provide a creative experience that fits within the context of the digital age - for digital-savvy and technophobe customers alike," says Ethel Taylor, CEO of Black's. "This new environment is a place to get comfortable, use your imagination, and seek inspiration. Customers can create projects with as much or as little assistance from Expert Associates as desired," she says.
The store design, developed by Figure 3 based in Toronto, is based on three key experience 'zones' (Equip, Learn, and Create). These 'zones' are aimed at helping customers tell their stories through digital imaging by providing them with: 1) tools and mediums 2) education, support, advice and training, and 3) a means for bringing their personal stories to life.
"Customers can come in with a specific idea in mind, or they can visit the store for creative solutions when they are asking, 'what should I do with the 500 photos sitting on my camera or computer?'" says Peter Scully, Vice President of Operations. "Perhaps the answer is a Photo Book, a 1-hour Quick Print Book, a family calendar, or even a large-scale canvas photo reproduction of a priceless memory. Whatever it is, you can do it here. And if you don't know what you want to do, a highly-trained, passionate associate is always on-hand to provide guidance."
The first store in Canada to feature this new concept officially opened last week at the 579 Robson Street location Vancouver, BC on Thursday, July 15, 2010. The new store concept and layout will eventually be rolled out to Black's retail locations across Canada. Stores featuring the new concept will retain all mainstay Black's store features, including expert staff, passport photos and print photo development.
