First Successful Four-Way Kidney Exchange Completed Within Two Months Of International Implementation
TOTOWA, N.J., June 23, 2016 /CNW/ -- BiologicTx® today announced that their Paired Donation Software, BiologicTx MatchGrid™, has been implemented internationally at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia under the supervision of Dr. Khlaid Almeshari, Transplant Nephrologist and Immunologist and Chairman of the Committee for Paired Kidney Donation and HLA and ABOi Kidney Transplantation. Since MatchGrid's implementation on April 1, 2016, the King Faisal Hospital has been able to identify and successfully complete their first 4-way kidney exchange as a result of the software.
BiologicTx Paired Donation's MatchGrid is an advanced enterprise software application that provides doctors and clinicians with the tools necessary to rapidly and accurately match living organ donors with patients who have willing, healthy, but incompatible donors. Using advanced matching and optimization algorithms, for a single center, MatchGrid can evaluate all potential matches from 2-way all the way through 12-way combinations in minutes or even longer regional chains, saving transplant centers months of work previously required to assess a smaller number of pairs. The software can also optimize the number of transplants for a given pool of donor/recipient pairs, ensuring the maximum number of transplants for the most difficult people to match, with the highest quality matches for each transplant hub in a paired kidney donation network.
"BiologicTx MatchGrid allowed us to pair up and successfully transplant a nearly impossible 4-way kidney exchange. Two of the four patients involved in the chain were very highly sensitized to potential donors, so much so that desensitization was not an option and finding a match was highly unlikely without MatchGrid," stated Dr. Almeshari. "We are very excited about the potential MatchGrid provides for identifying other pairs and saving more lives."
"This initial 4-way kidney exchange is a testament not only to the expertise of Dr. Almeshari but also to the power of BiologicTx MatchGrid," stated Todd Krasinsky, Co-Founder and Chief Development Officer at BiologicTx. "This first successful step into international expansion will continue to open doors for us to expand into other countries and save lives around the world."
