Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, congratulated Bell Aliant and Unifor on reaching a new collective agreement for nearly 3 000 employees responsible for communication services throughout eastern Canada. Their current collective agreement will expire on December 31, 2014.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The parties used the Preventive Mediation Program, which helps employers and unions to move towards a more collaborative approach and find solutions that benefit everyone.
- Bell Aliant Regional Communication, Limited Partnership is an information and communications technology company providing services in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Over the last 5 years, more than 94 percent of collective agreements in the federal jurisdiction were settled without a work stoppage when the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service was involved.
"I congratulate Bell Aliant and Unifor for working together before the expiry of their current agreement. I applaud their commitment to collaborative labour relations and want to recognize the efforts made by both parties during preventive mediation."
