Bell Aliant and the Bell Aliant Pioneer Volunteers contribute more than
$67,000 to local charities during their annual Christmas Celebration

ST. JOHN'S, Dec. 24 /CNW/ - Bell Aliant and the Bell Aliant Pioneer Volunteers have donated over $67,000 to support 46 charities throughout Newfoundland & Labrador. The annual donations program was announced today at the Christmas celebrations at Bell Aliant.

The Christmas donation program has been a tradition for 22 years for employees and Pioneer volunteers at Bell Aliant. Representatives from a number of charities were on hand to receive their donations and were joined by Bell Aliant employees, retirees and their families.

"This is an important holiday giving tradition at Bell Aliant," said June Turpin, Regional Director, xwave, "Our employees and retirees give generously of their time and talent to many community programs throughout the year and during the holiday season, we see the fruits of their labour."

"We are very grateful for the generosity of Bell Aliant and the Bell Aliant Pioneers. Their continued support has allowed us to fund more children in recreational and leisure programs in the city," said Heather Hickman, Community Development Manager with the City of St. John's, Department of Recreation. "Bell Aliant has a strong commitment to our communities and at this time of year their support is even more appreciated."

Since 1985, Bell Aliant and the Bell Aliant Pioneers have been assisting organizations in the province carry out their work at Christmas with cash contributions, volunteer work and donations of Christmas stockings. This year the Pioneers have collected over 580 stockings filled with gifts by Bell Aliant employees. These stockings have been distributed to families in need by community based organizations across the Province.
