Canada's National Women's Open Championship set for August 20-26 at The Vancouver Golf Club
VANCOUVER, Feb. 28, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - CN (TSX: CNR) (NYSE: CNI) and Golf Canada announced today that BC Children's Hospital Foundation has been selected as the official beneficiary of the CN Miracle Match campaign to be held during the 2012 CN Canadian Women's Open.
Canada's National Women's Open Golf Championship will take place from August 20-26 at The Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam, BC.
CN Miracle Match is a national charitable initiative that rallies communities across Canada behind a very worthy cause - supporting children's hospitals. Funds raised through this initiative in communities in the Vancouver area and throughout British Columbia will be given to BC Children's Hospital Foundation.
Each year since 2006, CN and Golf Canada have raised funds to support children's hospitals by matching funds raised through initiatives connected with the CN Canadian Women's Open. In the past six years, the CN Miracle Match program has raised $6.45 million for children's hospitals located in the cities that have hosted the Open.
"At CN, we believe that the best way to build strong communities is to promote and safeguard the health of our young people and we are very proud that CN Miracle Match has been able to help children all across Canada since 2006," said Claude Mongeau, President and Chief Executive Officer of CN. "We are confident that the money raised in the course of the 2012 campaign will help BC Children's Hospital continue to provide critical pediatric care to children throughout British Columbia. "
"Community-minded partners like CN and Golf Canada play an important role in keeping BC Children's Hospital at the forefront of pediatric medicine," said Teri Nicholas, president and CEO of BC Children's Hospital Foundation. "BC Children's is the only hospital in the province with the full range of expertise required to meet the needs of critically or chronically ill children. Funds raised through the CN Miracle Match program will help us ensure we continue to provide the best health care possible for our children today and in the future."
The 2012 CN Canadian Women's Open marks the return of professional golf to Vancouver following the 2011 RBC Canadian Open, which was conducted by Golf Canada last July at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club.
"Along with our partners at CN, we believe it is very important that the CN Canadian Women's Open leave a lasting legacy in our local host communities," said Scott Simmons, Golf Canada's Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. "Vancouver is a world-class city with passionate golf fans and we are thrilled that Canada's National Women's Open Championship will benefit BC Children's Hospital and its important work."
