Barley Council welcomes new Saskatchewan commissions
CALGARY, June 20, 2013 /CNW/ - The Barley Council of Canada (BCC) congratulates Saskatchewan farmers on the establishment of the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission and the Saskatchewan Barley Development Commission.
Today's announcement was made at the Farm Progress Show in Regina. Each commission will have the opportunity to guarantee Saskatchewan wheat and barley producers have the resources and leadership needed to stay competitive.
"Bringing Saskatchewan producers to the BCC board table makes organizations like ours much stronger," said Brian Otto, BCC Chairman. "I look forward to working with the Saskatchewan Barley Development Commission to help strengthen the Canadian barley industry."
Bill Cooper, Chair of the Saskatchewan Barley Development Commission, is currently representing the province at the BCC Board table. Otto added that, as the Barley Council of Canada Board is comprised of both farmers and industry, it is important to have strong farmer representation at the table.
The Council will be working closely with the newly formed barley commission on the advancement of barley in Saskatchewan and nationally.
