TORONTO, Dec. 23, 2016 /CNW/ - Babsocks, the Toronto-based sock company brandishing Mike Babcock's mean mug on a pair of blue and white socks, have opened a shop.
Launching in October 2015, co-founders Thomas McCole and Jake Mednick struck a deal less than a year later to get their socks in cases of Molson Canadian for a World Cup of Hockey promotion. They have now opened the "Babshop" at 553 Mt. Pleasant Rd. The Babshop sells only one product, Babsocks of course, and are hoping Maple Leafs fans drop by to enjoy one of Toronto's most unique retail spots.
"Opening a shop is a dream come true," Thomas McCole says. "We love meeting the fans in person. We worked hard to make the store fun and want hockey fans to be able to come in and have a good time."
The store opened Friday, December 16th and boasts replica NHL boards where fans can come and take a picture. The Babshop even got an unexpected guest of honour last Sunday when Mike Babcock himself dropped by to take a peak at the store built in his honour.
"It was such a thrill that he was able to come by. Mr. Babcock has been so gracious and good humoured in the media when Babsocks have come up. We're just so proud he's the coach of our beloved Leafs," gushed a smiling Jake Mednick.
The Babshop is open every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will even be open Christmas Eve from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for shoppers looking for a last minute stocking stuffer.
