Award Winning Scientist Presenting at Toronto's ZoomerShow; Natural Health Products and Active Aging

TORONTO, Oct. 24, 2013 /CNW/ - Men and women 45 and over are redefining expectations about aging. Classified as "Active Agers", these individuals are focused on multiple lifestyle dimensions that go beyond the physical elements of health prevention and wellness, but also include social, intellectual, environmental, vocational and emotional wellbeing.

"For active agers, achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle means balancing a number of things: prevention; fitness and nutrition; and prescription drugs," said Dr. Jacqueline Shan, founder and chief scientist of Afinix Life Sciences Inc. "Natural health products are also an important and proactive way to manage your health."

Dr. Shan will be a speaker at Toronto's ZoomerShow, Canada's largest consumer show and lifestyle expo for people over 45. She will be discussing natural health products, how they play a role in helping our aging population, and how they fit in to an active ager's wellness routine.

Dr. Shan's company, Afinix Life Sciences Inc., was founded on the premise of combining her expertise as a medical researcher and developer, with her passion and curiosity about natural medicine. The result has been a growing line of naturally based health products marketed under the brand, Afinity. The first products are a series of condition-specific Omega-3s, chosen because of their diverse benefits for joint, heart and brain health.

Afinity will have a booth at the ZoomerShow to present these products.

"Our goal for the ZoomerShow is to share interesting information and promote positive aging," said David Sersta, vice president, Zoomer Media. "It's great to see a company like Afinix develop quality products that support the needs of Zoomers. We are excited to hear from Dr. Shan and to learn about her vision on wellness, recognizing her extensive expertise in the area of natural health."

"For most people, choosing a supplement to optimize their health can be complicated," said Shan. "It's important that consumers understand the science behind the vast amount of products available, and what constitutes a quality product in order to make an informed decision. Not all products are created equal."

To help consumers make informed decisions and purchase quality products, Dr. Shan will discuss the importance of purity, potency, stability (quality and freshness of a product), source and sustainability.

Dr. Shan will be presenting on Saturday, October 26, 2013 from 11:40 - 11:55 a.m. on the Health and Vitality stage and from 3:35 - 3:45 p.m. on the Main Stage of the Direct Energy Centre. For tickets, please visit:
