TORONTO, Nov. 12 /CNW/ - The CropLife Canada booth currently on display at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair won the Best Public Outreach Program Award at the 2009 Agrow Awards held last night in London, England.
The 600-square foot booth draws attention to the many ways that Canada's plant science industry supports innovative and sustainable agriculture and highlights the industry's commitment to environmental stewardship. The booth also increases awareness, understanding and acceptance of the benefits, value and safety of plant science technologies and innovations.
"We developed the booth to help Canadians understand how our products benefit them and it's extremely rewarding to have those efforts recognized at such a prestigious international event," CropLife Canada president Lorne Hepworth said.
CropLife Canada features a wide range of activities and attractions including:
- Listening stations where kids and adults alike can hear the sounds of
bugs destroying crops
- The Farming Challenge, a computer game that helps people understand
the challenges of farming by giving them control of making farming
- A bean planting station that helps young people learn more about how
things grow by giving them their very own seed in a biodegradable
- Cammie the Container, our industry's stewardship mascot
- Teaching resources including posters, lesson plans and copies of the
Farming Challenge game
"The plant science industry provides safe and effective tools that provide real benefits to the average Canadian. We want to help people learn more about how our products help farmers feed the world and the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is a great place to make that happen," Hepworth said.
The Agrow Awards recognize the crop protection industry's efforts to promote understanding of the value work done by this sector. Having won the 2007 Stewardship Program Award, this is CropLife Canada's second Agrow Award.
CropLife Canada is booth 7305 at this year's Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.
