Government of Canada awards $10M in financial assistance to maintain snowmobile and cross-country ski trails
SAINTE-ANNE-DES-MONTS, QC, June 26, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ – Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Tourism contributes to the economic diversification of Quebec regions and Canada. The Government of Canada's support for tourism activities generates significant direct economic benefits for the middle class in the regions.
The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Member of Parliament for Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Minister of National Revenue, and Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia, acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, today announced the launch of the Winter Tourism Initiative, which is meant to increase spinoff from tourists visiting from outside Quebec.
This special initiative has an envelope of $10M under the Quebec Economic Development Program and will help with the acquisition of equipment needed to maintain snowmobile and cross-country ski trails.
"Winter tourism contributes significantly to the economic vitality of Gaspésie, and snowmobiling and cross-country skiing attract not only local fans of these sports, but also an international clientele. Better quality trails will only strengthen Gaspésie's reputation and visibility as a top destination."
The Honourable Diane Lebouthillier, Member of Parliament for Gaspésie–Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine and Minister of National Revenue
"I am very pleased about CED's support as part of this initiative, which will certainly make snowmobilers, skiers and our local tourism businesses very happy. Tourism infrastructure, such as snowmobile and cross-country ski trails, helps make our region more attractive and stimulates economic activity."
Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia
"Tourism is a very significant activity sector for Quebec's regions, and the Government of Canada is working hard to make it profitable for everyone. There is no doubt that this initiative will create jobs and generate wealth for the regions, while helping showcase all Quebec communities."
