Employees celebrate Astellas' 10 year anniversary by volunteering at childhood cancer charity
TORONTO, May 20, 2015 /CNW/ - Today, more than 140 Astellas Pharma Canada, Inc. ("Astellas") employees are helping change tomorrow by spending the day volunteering at Camp Trillium as part of the company's sixth annual Changing Tomorrow Day. To commemorate the organization's 10th anniversary, Astellas is reinforcing its commitment to the community by launching a variety of volunteer activities around the world as part of its global Changing Tomorrow Day initiative.
"We are thrilled to have Astellas bring their employees out to Camp Trillium," said Marci Shea Perry, Executive Director of Camp Trillium. "Their work will help us to prepare the camp for the summer ahead. Astellas is a long-time supporter of the camp, and we rely on the assistance of companies like Astellas to provide our programs for children living with cancer."
Camp Trillium is a provincial childhood cancer charity that provides recreational and camping programs for children living with cancer and their families. The camp has two sites located in the province of Ontario. Astellas employees will be spending the day at the Waterford campsite and will help prepare the facility for the summer months, including painting, staining, gardening and light construction.
"Astellas' Changing Tomorrow Day embodies the spirit of giving back to the communities we serve and we are proud to be contributing to Camp Trillium in celebration of our 10th anniversary," said Michael Tremblay, president of Astellas Pharma Canada. "Today is a powerful testament to our employees' dedication and commitment to volunteerism, as it marks the first time all employees from across Canada are coming together at one location for Changing Tomorrow Day. We are motivated to show support to the organizations that need it in the areas where we live and work, starting right here at Camp Trillium."
This year, Astellas recognizes its 10th anniversary as a leader in the global pharmaceutical industry, saluting a decade of patient care milestones in oncology, urology, transplant, dermatology, infectious disease and cardiology. To acknowledge this progress, Changing Tomorrow Day events are currently being planned in the Americas region. In the U.S., employees are taking part in various volunteer activities, including restoring a park, supporting food banks and preparing meals for pediatric patients and their families. Astellas employees in Brazil will engage in volunteer initiatives focused on patient care in Sao Paulo and its surrounding communities.
