Armour Transportation Systems Achieves Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies
Platinum Status

Despite Growth Company Maintains Commitment to Core Values

TORONTO, Feb. 16 /CNW/ - Armour Transportation Systems achieved Platinum Club member status with the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies program by retaining their Best Managed designation for the past seven consecutive years. This prestigious national award is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC Commercial Banking, National Post, and Queen's School of Business.

"I want to congratulate Armour Transportation Systems on becoming a Platinum Club member. This designation exemplifies consistency, commitment and the ability to be flexible in a changing marketplace. These qualities are what makes Armour Transportation Systems such a great business success story and one of Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies," said John Hughes, Partner, Private Company Services group with Deloitte, a national sponsor of the Best Managed program.

Armour Transportation Systems, proudly family-owned and operated, is headquartered in Moncton, New Brunswick. The company operates from its 23 freight terminals located throughout Atlantic Canada along with facilities in Montreal and Toronto. Founded by Gordon Armour in the 1930's, the company started with just two trucks hauling for Kraft Foods. Today, under the leadership of Gordon's son Wesley, the business has expanded to a current fleet of more than 3,500 pieces of equipment and is one of the largest transportation companies in Canada.

Established in 1993, the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies is a national awards program, recognizing Canadian companies that have implemented world-class business practices and created value in innovative ways. Applications are reviewed by an independent judging panel that evaluates how companies address various business challenges, including new technologies, globalization, brand management, leadership, leveraging and developing core competencies, designing information systems, and hiring the right talent to facilitate growth.

"We are incredibly proud and honored to receive this prestigious award. This award belongs to each of our 1,600 team members located throughout Atlantic Canada. Their dedication and commitment to our customers and our willingness to change over the last 50 years has enabled our company to retain, grow and expand our client base. This award reaffirms our commitment to the core values and beliefs in our company," said Wesley Armour, President and CEO of Armour Transportation Systems.

"It takes a company focused on values, a strong business plan, and most of all hard work, to succeed in today's market place" said Calvin Younger, Senior Vice-President, CIBC Commercial Banking. "Companies winning this year's Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies exemplify these traits."

2009 winners of the Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies award, along with Requalified and Platinum Club members will be honoured at the annual Best Managed gala in Toronto on March 8th, 2010. On the same date, the Best Managed symposium will address leading-edge business issues that are key to the success of today's business leaders.
