ArcelorMittal donates more than $1 million US for victims of the Haiti

Canadian operations contribute to relief efforts

MONTREAL, Jan. 25 /CNW/ - ArcelorMittal, through the ArcelorMittal Foundation, announces a donation of $1 million US to help the relief efforts in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

In a first step, two days after the disaster, ArcelorMittal announced a $100,000 US donation to support emergency intervention from the organization Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) in Port-au-Prince. The donation was to help address the immediate needs of the persons affected by the earthquake.

Today the Company is increasing its aid to a total of $1 million US. This donation will be given in cash and in kind, including an offer to assist with new housing projects to rebuild Haiti. ArcelorMittal is also encouraging its employees to support other local fundraising and relief initiatives in their respective countries.

ArcelorMittal's Canadian operations, which include ArcelorMittal Long Products in Montreal, ArcelorMittal Mines of Quebec and ArcelorMittal Dofasco in Hamilton, Ontario will also be supporting the Canadian Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.

"We are very happy that the Company has so generously responded to help Haiti. ArcelorMittal in Montreal feels a special closeness to the people of Haiti," said Daniel Robert, Vice President Human Resources and Legal Affairs.

ArcelorMittal's Canadian operations will also be supporting the relief efforts at the local level through corporate donations as well as employee-driven activities.
