The expanded three-level location on Sainte-Catherine Street brings an enhanced ReBIRD Service Centre, dedicated Veilance space and new community-focused experiences to the heart of downtown Montréal
MONTRÉAL, Sept. 14, 2026 /CNW/ -- Arc'teryx Equipment, the global design company specializing in technical high-performance apparel and equipment, today announces the opening of its new Montréal Alpha Store at 1133 Saint-Catherine Street West, relocating its longstanding Sainte-Catherine Street store to an expanded, three-level space. The opening represents Arc'teryx's largest investment in its Montréal retail presence to date, building on the legacy of the city where the brand opened its first Canadian retail store.
"Montréal is an incredibly important market for Arc'teryx and has been part of our retail story from the very beginning," says Megan Cheesbrough, VP, North America Retail at Arc'teryx. "This new Alpha Store reflects our continued commitment to the city and gives us the opportunity to evolve how we show up for our guests, creating a more immersive environment that brings together the very best of Arc'teryx under one roof."
The Alpha Store is a retail format that reflects Arc'teryx's commitment to meeting its guests where they are, providing hubs for community connection, engagement and shared mountain experiences. In this vein, the store is designed as a haven for Montréal's outdoor community, featuring a dedicated community space for locals to gather, relax and host events such as run clubs and climbing groups.
At the heart of the Alpha Store concept is ReBIRD™, the brand's in-store centre for Arc'teryx's initiatives in care and repair, resale and upcycling. These centres' serve as a central part of the brand's dedication to circularity. Representing the largest investment within the new Montréal store, the expanded ReBIRD™ Service Centre includes a dedicated Repair Operator space, offering full repair services to help guests extend the life of their Arc'teryx products. The space also includes a ReBIRD™ RESALE area, where guests can purchase refurbished Arc'teryx products.
"Making these services more accessible to our guests is incredibly important to us," explains Dominique Showers, VP, ReBIRD at Arc'teryx. "By investing in ReBIRD at the store level, we're making it easier for people to care for the gear they already own and keep it in use for as long as possible."
The additional footprint also creates more space for guests to experience the breadth of the Arc'teryx brand. Multiple fitting rooms across the ground floor, mezzanine and ReBIRD™ level support product try-on throughout the store while back-lit Jacket Bays celebrate the brand's most iconic products.
Designed by MGB Architecture and Joseph Tontodonat, the store draws inspiration from the mountains through a palette of authentic natural materials, tactile textures and moody, atmospheric finishes. Sugi Ban finishes inspired by backcountry architecture are complemented by warm woods and dimensional stone, while layered lighting and sculptural elements create a sense of depth and drama. Angled architectural details with integrated lighting mimic the silhouette of a mountain range or skyline, while real West Coast planting brings greenery and a connection to nature throughout the space. Together, these elements bring the raw, immersive feeling of the mountain environment into the heart of the city.
The store's design is also deeply rooted in Arc'teryx's Montréal heritage and the city's local identity. A custom vintage Montréal map and a sculptural art piece made from climbing holds salvaged from the original Sainte-Catherine Street store pay homage to the brand's history in the city, while a custom Guide Table on the sales floor features an interactive 3D map of local mountains and trails. The Veilance area further draws inspiration from Montréal's urban environment, bridging the city and the outdoors.
"As we continue to grow, it's important that our stores are a reflection of the places and communities they serve," adds Stuart Haselden, CEO of Arc'teryx. "Montréal has its own distinct character and a longstanding connection to Arc'teryx, and we wanted that to come through in how we approached this store."
With its thoughtful design, deep roots in Montréal and expanded spaces for community and product care, Arc'teryx's new Alpha Store is more than a new retail destination. It brings together product, service and community to create a new home base for Arc'teryx guests in the city.
