Arbitration decision concerning the closure of the St. Simon and St. Valérien plants: Olymel files an application for judicial review

ST-HYACINTHE, QC, Sept. 17, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Olymel executive has decided to ask the Quebec Superior Court to conduct a judicial review of the decision handed down on August 20 by arbitrator Claude H. Foisy in the matter of the April 2007 closure of the St. Valérien and St. Simon hog slaughtering and butchering complex. In his decision, the arbitrator partially granted six grievances filed by the Syndicat des travailleurs d'Olympia (CSN). The company had asked its attorneys to conduct a thorough review of the decision. The review has concluded that many aspects of this decision are erroneous and unreasonable, and Olymel believes it has strong legal grounds to ask the court to annul the arbitrator's decision. Olymel has therefore decided to exercise its remedies and assert its rights this morning by filing a motion to institute proceedings for judicial review with the clerk of the Superior Court for the District of Montreal.

No further comment will be made on this matter as long as it is before the courts.
