VANCOUVER, Jan. 27, 2015 /CNW/ - Techvibes has formally announced the winners of the 2014 Canadian Startup Awards.
Now in their fourth year, the annual awards are a celebration of startups and technology in Canada, honouring the country's incredible entrepreneurial talent. This year, more than 40,000 votes were tallied to determine winners across six categories following six intense weeks of nominations and voting.
"This year, we had more nominations and votes than ever," says Knowlton Thomas, managing editor of Techvibes. "These winners represent the best of Canada's startup ecosystem as chosen by the people."
Here are the official winners for each category:
- Startup of the Year 2014: VarageSale
- Entrepreneur of the Year 2014: Stewart Butterfield
- Employer of the Year 2014: Shopify
- Angel of the Year 2014: Dan Debow
- Venture Capital Firm of the Year 2014: OMERS Ventures
- Accelerator Graduate of the Year 2014: Vanhawks

VarageSale, as well as all three Employer of the Year finalists—winner Shopify and runners-up FreshBooks and Shopify—will be hiring at the Techvibes Tech Fest in Toronto on February 19, where they will be presented with their awards by Robert Lewis, the editor-in-chief of Techvibes.
