Alta Editions Launches New Online Cookbook Series with The Journey
An Innovative Merging of Cookbooks and Online Publishing
NEW YORK, Nov. 13, 2013 /CNW/ - Alta Editions (http://www.altaeditions.com), the IACP award-winning publisher of Laurent Gras: My Provence, announces the release of the Alta Editions Cooking Series, a new online cookbook series featuring stories and recipes from some of the world's most inspiring chefs. The first edition, The Journey, was released today.
The Journey (http://www.altaeditions.com/journey) presents home cooks with a collection of 20 recipes from four celebrated New York City women chefs:
- Katy Sparks - Executive chef of Tavern on the Green
- Maneet Chauhan - Judge on Food Network's Chopped
- Alex Raij - Chef and co-owner of La Vara, Txikito, El Quinto Pino and El Comedor
- Rita Sodi - Chef and owner of I Sodi
The Journey explores a diverse set of cuisines through the lens of food-related journeys experienced both inside and outside the kitchen. Co-author and veteran food writer Kathleen Squires writes in the introduction:
"The four chefs in this edition share their cooking adventures and the places it has brought them, emotionally, creatively and professionally. It is the vehicle they have chosen to make connections with family, friends and patrons, as a comfort through life's challenges and as a centerpiece for celebrations…In this book, we celebrate the growth of women in the culinary industry and the voyages they have taken literally, or figuratively, to get there."
The expertly crafted recipes in The Journey are easy to follow and feature beautiful step-by-step photographs by award-winning photographer Penny De Los Santos. Helpful photo galleries, chef tips and short videos are included to support home cooks at any skill level. Equipment and ingredient lists are organized in a clear visual style, allowing cooks to quickly and easily organize the tools and ingredients they'll need to prepare a dish. "Buy" links are provided for equipment and less common pantry items.
The Alta Editions Cooking Series was designed for our emerging digital world and is accessible on any computer, tablet or mobile device. Stories and recipes are easily shared with friends via email, Twitter, Facebook and on Pinterest.
Future cookbook editions will be released every other month and exclusive preview recipes will be released between editions. Unlimited access to all recipes is available with a $1.99 per month subscription. Non-subscribers are able to preview up to three complimentary recipes per edition.
"The Journey and the Alta Editions Cooking Series represent a new way to publish cookbooks and recipes to readers and home cooks at a time when tablets and mobile phones capture so much of our attention," said Alta Editions Publisher Chris McBride. "Publishing online allows us to present a sharable interactive experience that simply isn't possible by publishing in traditional print or e-book formats or even as a native app on iOS or Android."
The second edition in the series, The Journey Part Two, will be released in December 2013 and will feature chefs Sara Jenkins (Porchetta, Porsena), Carmen González (La Chispa de Chef Carmen González), Rachel Graville (Iris Cafe) and Sarah Simmons (City Grit).
