AIMCo Announces Re-Appointment of Chair and New Appointment to Board of Directors

EDMONTON, Oct. 26, 2015  /CNW/ -Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) is pleased to announce the re-appointment of Mr. Mac Van Wielingen as Chair of the Board of Directors.  In addition, AIMCo would like to announce the appointment of Mr. Tom Woods to its Board of Directors. The official re-appointment and appointment follow the signing of the Order in Council by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta on October 22, 2015.

Mac Van Wielingen, Chair of the AIMCo Board of Directors, states, "On behalf of Alberta Investment Management Corporation, it gives me great pleasure to welcome Mr. Tom Woods to the Board of Directors. Mr. Woods has exceptional proven executive experience drawing from an extensive career in investment banking and financial services.  He is an excellent complement to the composition of the Board that will greatly benefit AIMCo's clients.  We look forward to having Tom join our team."

Biographical Notes

Tom Woods had a distinguished career with CIBC spanning nearly four decades, where he served most recently in the capacity of Senior Executive Vice-President and Vice-Chairman, since 2013.

He joined Wood Gundy, the predecessor firm of CIBC World Markets, in the Toronto Investment Banking Department in 1977. In 1980, he moved to the Montreal Investment Banking Department and returned to Toronto Investment Banking in 1985. Throughout this time, he specialized in advising companies in raising financing in the equity and debt capital markets as well as mergers and acquisitions.

In 1996, Mr. Woods was named head of Canadian Corporate Banking and in 1998 was appointed Chief Financial Officer of CIBC World Markets. He became Controller of CIBC in 1999. In 2000, Mr. Woods was appointed Chief Financial Officer for CIBC and was promoted to Senior Executive Vice-President in 2003. In 2008, he was appointed Chief Risk Officer for CIBC.

Mr. Woods serves on the boards of the CIBC Children's Foundation; DBRS, Inc. and DBRS Limited; the Board of Advisors of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, University of Toronto; and St. Joseph's Health Centre.

Mr. Woods graduated from the University of Toronto in 1975 with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Industrial Engineering. He earned his Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1977.
