TORONTO, Feb. 2, 2016 /CNW/ - Canada's elected representative to the World Green Building Council Lisa Bate is bringing her 30 years of experience in sustainable architecture and interior design back to Canada.
Bate is taking the role of Regional Managing Principal for B+H Architects North America after spending the last four years based in Shanghai driving B+H's strategic growth in Asia. During her time in China, Bate helped B+H win several high-profile projects, including a standing agreement with Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, as well as projects with China's largest Internet portal Tencent, Inter Ikea Shopping Centre, Huawei, Microsoft China, AstraZeneca and Columbia China Healthcare Company.
"The attitudes towards energy performance in China are completely changing. There has been a major shift towards office health and sustainable practices and we were able to respond with world class design that spoke to these pillars," says Bate, explaining B+H's success during her time in China.
Prior to joining B+H, Bate was responsible for designing Shanghai's first 'Canadian Maple Town,' a massive suburb outside the Chinese city that was conceived to exemplify Canadian design.
In her new role, Bate will draw on her global perspective and unrivalled experience in sustainable design to lead and support B+H's partners and clients in Toronto, Seattle, Vancouver and Calgary. Bate's North American experience already includes B+H's work on all new sports venues for the 2015 Toronto Pan Am/Parapan Am Games, as well as projects with Bell Canada, Ottawa's Convention Centre Redevelopment and Markham Stoufville Hospital among several others.
With a 60+ year history working on some of the most recognizable buildings in Canada and around the world, B+H remains one of the largest design firms in North America and the 59th largest practice in the world according to the WA100 2016.
"Lisa will quickly become an invaluable asset for our North American practices and clients," says B+H CEO Bill Nankivell, adding "her global perspective and unrivalled passion for sustainability elevate the already strong quality of our team here."
