AEMQ Asks Marois Government to Promote Harmonious and Sustainable Development of Mineral Resources

ROUYN-NORANDA, Sept. 12, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Quebec Mining Exploration Association (AEMQ) extends its best wishes for success to Pauline Marois' Government and all elected officials, and offers full cooperation in the implementation of initiatives promoting the harmonious and sustainable development of mineral resources.

The AEMQ understands to what extent mineral resources are a political imperative for all parties. When holding essential and legitimate debates, the economic impact of our natural resources should not be minimized. The mining industry is a major contributor to the development of Quebec, not only in far-flung regions, but in major centers as well.

The AEMQ is asking the Premier and her Government to be enlightened in their vision for the development of mineral resources:

"It is imperative that the new Government of Quebec maintain a central and state-backed decision- making role in the management of mineral resources. All weaknesses in the state's fiduciary responsibility over resources will be detrimental to the collective interest of the people of Quebec," stated AEMQ president, Jean-Marc Lulin.

The AEMQ favours an open and responsible dialogue concerning everything at stake for Quebec and its natural resources.

Certain essential issues, including access to territory and mining taxation, must be analyzed with clarity, taking into account the proposals of economic operators, who are the true creators of jobs and on whom the development of our regions depends. In order to support future investments, which amount to billions of dollars, and to uphold Quebec's competitive edge, the regulatory framework must be clear, predictable and stand the test of time.

"Quebec cannot do without its creators of wealth and must pay attention to their goals, needs and economic challenges. All legal and regulatory changes must take into account the challenges facing Quebec's emerging mineral sector and related contractors. 50 years of effort and investment are at stake," underscored Valérie Fillion, AEMQ's General Manager.

The Quebec Mineral Exploration Association (AEMQ) is a non-profit organization formed under the Companies Act, Part III. The AEMQ represents players in the field of mineral exploration in Quebec. The association was founded in 1975 by individuals in the mineral exploration (prospectors, geologists, geophysicists, entrepreneurs, developers and exploration managers) industry with a goal to increase exploration and support the development of mining entrepreneurship in Quebec. The AEMQ has over 2183 individual members (prospectors, geologists, geophysicists, brokers, tax experts, lawyers, etc.) and 241 corporate members (major and minor mining exploration companies, geological and geophysical engineering consultancy firms, drilling companies, service providers, equipment manufacturers, etc). It is run by a board of directors composed of 20 representatives from different areas of mining exploration.
