Adults from across Ontario celebrate their High School Graduation with the Independent Learning Centre
TORONTO, June 8, 2012 /CNW/ - The Assistant Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Grant Clarke, will participate in the Independent Learning Centre's (ILC) Graduation and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 9, 2012 to congratulate graduating students and top scoring GED test writers.
Graduates are adult learners who range in age from 17 to their seventies, who have pursed independent study to earn their high school diploma with the ILC. Some are bound for university and college, while others are currently enjoying retirement. They have all travelled from across the province to graduate today.
The annual ILC & GED Graduation and Awards Ceremony is a formal occasion that recognizes the achievement of learners who have earned their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) through distance study with the ILC. The ceremony also honours top-scoring General Educational Development (GED) tests writers who have earned their Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate.
"I have had the honour and the privilege of running the ILC for 10 years. In that short period of time, about 155,000 people have come to us for specific credits, a high school diploma or to write a GED test. Some come as intentional learners: motivated, determined, ready and able to embrace the academic challenges ahead. While others are at the other end of the spectrum, where learning was not, let's say the pastime of choice. Whether it was an adventure or an odyssey - you did it!" says Sarah Irwin, managing director of the Independent Learning Centre.
