Acclaimed Canadian actress set for bullying role in Allied Artists' feature thriller 'Crush'
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Canadian actress Sarah Meltzer will star in "Crush," a 2014 thriller feature film from director-writer Peter Liapis.
The premise is being kept under wraps, but the story centers on a girl who is bullied by a group of her peers in high school, and later in life they must answer for their actions when someone close to her seeks revenge.
"The topic of bullying is one of the things that attracted me to this script," Meltzer said. "It's a very serious epidemic. The sad thing is, and the statement about this movie, even though it's not based on a true story, it's not that farfetched that it couldn't be true."
Meltzer, known for her roles in," MTV's "Undressed" and Anita Doron's "Simulacrum," will play Ginger, the leading antagonist.
"Her lust for power motivates her," Meltzer said. "She's working in her dad's law firm. She's never the person to struggle for anything. Bullying for Ginger exercises her power complex. It's really amazing to play this kind of role that's not like me and is power hungry to a reckless point."
Co-starring are Jon Bloch ("Hatfields & McCoys"), Tommy O'Reilly and Connor J. Smith of "Necessary Measures," and newcomer Keri Casey Lusk, who plays the tormented Katie Sullivan.
Filming in set to commence in 2014 at Big Bear Lake, Calif. "Crush" will be distributed worldwide in 2014 by Allied Artists Pictures, who produced and distributed classics such as the Oscar nominees "The Man Who Would Be King" starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine, "Papillon" starring Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman, and the eight time Oscar winner "Cabaret" starring Liza Minnelli.
Meltzer is lining up a busy 2014 as she's attached to star in Persona Pictures' feature film, "CON" which is in association with Dylan Ramsey Films and pitched as part "Pleasantville" part "Hunger Games" part "Avatar."
"It brings a look into how connected we are," Meltzer said, "but how disconnected we've become as a result."
Keeping close to her comedy roots, Meltzer, a Second City protégé, is also attached to act in the web series, "Fade," starring "Castle" regular Tamala Jones. The series follows the goings on at a small family-owned salon located in a primo zip code and its owners who don't want to sell no matter what conflicts they'll face.
