ABVMA Announces New 2017 President, Dr. Margitta Dziwenka

EDMONTON, Feb. 28, 2017 /CNW/ - The Alberta Veterinary Medical Association (ABVMA) is very pleased to announce that Dr. Margitta Dziwenka has been appointed to the position of ABVMA President.

Dr. Dziwenka graduated from WCVM in 1997 and worked as a mixed animal practitioner in Vegreville, AB for almost three years. She began working at the Alberta Research Council (ARC) in 2000, conducting research on petroleum exposure in cattle and sheep. The unit at ARC changed its focus a few years later and began performing Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) compliant regulatory studies for the Pharmaceutical and Biotech industries.

Dr. Dziwenka became Board Certified in General Toxicology by the American Board of Toxicology in 2011 and now works at the University of Alberta as the Assistant Director for Health Sciences Laboratory Animal Services. In addition, she has a consulting company which serves clients in both Canada and the US who are submitting notifications to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Generally Regarding As Safe (GRAS) Notification Program for substances to be added to both human food and animal feed.

Dr. Dziwenka has volunteered with the ABVMA since early in her career, serving on both the PIPS and Registration committees before being elected to Council in 2014.

Outside of the clinic, Margitta lives on a farm near Vegreville where she and her husband raise black angus cattle and have a grain operation including crops such as peas, canola and wheat.
