MONTREAL, Oct. 25, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The AICP vehemently condemns the events of rare violence that took place in the national capital Ottawa and in St- Jean-sur-Richelieu earlier this week.
These heinous crimes that have targeted the heart of our nation have been committed with the aim of spreading fear, horror and terrorize our fellow citizens. The perpetrators and their co-conspirators must be punished and brought to the full force of justice.
Our profound feeling of sadness is even deeper knowing that these acts are perpetrated in the name of our religion, and are in fact a serious falsification of the principles and values that we have been spreading amongst people of all ages and backgrounds for over 20 years.
Our association was founded on the principles of moderation, the teaching of Islam in its most authentic form and the battle against extremist ideologies irrespective of their origins.
On behalf of the AICP and on behalf of all Canadian Muslims, we would like to reach out and work hand in hand with any organization or person wishing to collaborate in this undertaking against extremist doctrines. All this for the sake of living together in a strong, cohesive and secure Canada.
These tragic events bring us together, join us and make us realize even more the importance of staying united in the face of terrorism. In a time of crisis, remaining committed to the principles of fairness, justice and openness is what will make us a model for the world.
