Aboriginal Excellence In Leadership Awards Recognized at the 13th Annual AFOA National Conference
TORONTO, Feb. 14, 2013 /CNW/ - The Aboriginal Financial Officers Association of Canada is pleased to announce the 2013 recipients of the AFOA -Xerox Excellence in Aboriginal Leadership Award at the annual AFOA national conference at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel.
The two recipients for the 10th year of the award are: Chief Robert Louie, Chief of Westbank First Nation and Chair of the First Nation Lands Advisory Board located in BC and Allan Munroe, VP of Finance & Administration for Paskwayak Business Development Corporation Ltd. in Opaskwayak, MB.
The AFOA-Xerox Excellence in Aboriginal Leadership National Award is presented to Chief Robert Louie for his commitment to leadership in leading financial management, governance and numerous economic development initiatives that span the country over many years. His commitment, leadership and vision have positively impacted the economy at a national level not only for First Nations but all Canadians.
Chief Robert Louie is the Chief of the Westbank First Nation, one of the most economically successful First Nations in this country. He is also the Chairman of the First Nations Lands Advisory Board and Chairman and Board of Director member of Peace Hills Trust (Financial Institution). He served as a Board of Governor member with the University of British Columbia and as a member of the President's Advisory Council of the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBC-O).
Chief Louie has served on numerous other boards and advisory bodies, including the National Aboriginal Economic Development Board, First Nations Finance Authority Inc., All Nations Trust Company, Kelowna Chamber of Commerce, United Native Friendship Society, and the Premiere's Advisory Council of Aboriginal Affairs. He is also the owner of several successful businesses in the Kelowna area.

The AFOA-Xerox Excellence in Aboriginal Leadership Regional Award is presented to Allan Munroe for his many years of dedication and leadership in finance.
With more than 17 years' experience in Aboriginal Financial Management, Allan has provided leadership and inspiration to many individuals and leads by example through his professionalism and belief in setting, meeting, and exceeding standards in Aboriginal Financial Management.
He obtained his CAFM in 2005 and is currently enrolled in the CMA program. His interest in the financial health of Aboriginal communities and organizations is exemplified through his work not only with the Paskwayak Development Corporation Ltd. as Vice-President of Finance and Administration but also through his work with the Swampy Cree Tribal Council where he worked with community members, leadership, and staff of member First Nations for almost 12 years as a Financial Advisor and Manager of External Finance. His work not only dealt with Aboriginal Financial Management but also areas such as Human Resource Management, Governance, and Strategic Planning.
It is Allan's focus to help Aboriginal communities and organizations achieve their goals and objectives in Financial Management. Allan has had the honour of being a member of the AFOA Manitoba team where the constant mission is tools and resources for the members by the members to ensure relevance and reliability.
About the Award
The Excellence in Aboriginal Leadership Award was created in 2004. It is designed to recognize and celebrate Inuit, Métis and First Nation achievements in finance and management.
Award recipients are selected on the basis they have supported a vision for excellence and innovation, and demonstrated advanced expertise, outstanding professionalism and leadership. Their contributions rise above and beyond their job descriptions to enrich the lives of Aboriginal people, communities and all Canadians.
There are two categories for nominations for the AFOA-Xerox Excellence in Leadership Award. The National category recognizes individuals who have contributed to the Aboriginal financial management profession on a national or institutional level. The Regional category recognizes those individuals who have made their contributions at the regional, local or community level.
