This new solution will help users make a list of belongings that have been stolen or damaged, and send the list to their respective insurer (SSQauto or another insurer) in order to facilitate and accelerate the claim process. In addition, SSQauto's mobile application meets the recommendations of the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC), which suggests that insureds keep a copy of their property inventory outside their home along with receipts, photographs or video recordings.
A step by step guide simplifies the inventory process
The process is simple: first, users create a profile for their residence or residences, where applicable (house, condo, apartment, cottage, etc.), which will be divided up into rooms (living room, kitchen, bedroom, garden shed, etc.). Then for each room, users create an entry per object worthy of being included in the inventory. The record contains basic information such as the make and model, purchase date, value of the object, a photo and the receipt (optional). If users don't want to photograph all of their belongings, they may replace the photos by a short video clip that pans the room. The property inventory may be kept on the user's smart phone. The user will have the option of generating a copy in PDF format, if necessary.
