MONTRÉAL, Jan. 21, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Gatineau couple Anny Brazeau and Alain Péladeau had good reason to celebrate the beginning of the year: they are the winners of a $5,000,000 Célébration 2016 grand prize! On Monday, January 18, they enthusiastically came to claim their cheque at Loto-Québec headquarters where they were greeted by Yves Corbeil. They accepted to share their joy with the public during a meeting with press held today at the Hilton Lac-Leamy.
Mr. Péladeau checked his tickets on the Internet just before going to play a game of hockey. Seeing that he had all the digits of one of the two $5,000,000 numbers, he exclaimed: "Honey, come here! Look! Can you believe it?" It only took 10 minutes before the house was filled with the couple's loved ones to celebrate the big news!
Every year, the couple purchases one or two Célébration tickets, and they often win a few free tickets. The lucky winners never thought that one day they would take home a grand prize! They don't know if they won thanks to a ticket they purchased or one that they received as a gift, but they will never forget the moment when they validated their winning ticket!
Ms. Brazeau and Mr. Péladeau plan on consulting a financial advisor, but one thing is already sure: they'll be doing quite a bit of travelling! They also plan on renovating their cottage.
Thanks to this second $5,000,000 grand prize awarded in just a few days, the 2016 edition of Célébration was a particularly generous one, with a payoff rate substantially higher than the published rate.
The lucky ticket was purchased from Metro located at 435 Montée Paiement in Gatineau. The retailer will receive a 1% prize of $50,000.
