A fundraising campaign to save one of the oldest working stables in North America has just been launched on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo
MONTREAL, Aug. 26, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - A unique witness of Montreal history, the Griffintown Horse Palace have been in operation continuously since 1862, making it one of the oldest working stables in North America. The stables offer a unique opportunity to experiencing living history in an authentic setting.
But time is running out: the stables are in an advanced state of disrepair and could collapse any day. 'If the stables were to be shut down, the horses would leave the site and the acquired right to keep horses would be lost' says the Griffintown Horse Palace Foundation whose mission it is to preserve and restore the site. 'It would no longer be possible to keep the site alive, and house these beautiful beasts!'
This is why the Griffintown Horse Palace Foundation is launching a fundraising campaign on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo, to rebuild the stables in 2015. The reconstruction will use existing elements of the stables and be an opportunity to upgrade the stalls, making them safer and better suited to horses' needs.
The reconstruction is estimated at $180,000. The objective of the Indiegogo campaign is to raise $45,000, since $135,000 have already been promised to the Foundation by private donors.
The Indiegogo fundraising campaign ends October 1st and will be followed with a big celebration on the site of the Horse Palace on Thursday October 2nd, with music, wine, catering, and of course, horses!
