Program to calculate and offset tailpipe emissions, powered by GreenPrint, expands to Canada
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 13, 2018 /CNW/ -- With a goal of planting 20,000 trees across Canada by October 2019 with Tree Canada, 7-Eleven, Inc. launches the expansion of RENEW™, 7-Eleven's emissions offset program. RENEW will be available at more than 60 7-Eleven fueling locations across the Metro Vancouver Regional District.
The RENEW program is 7-Eleven's collaboration with GreenPrint, a company promoting sustainability through the retail petroleum, fleet and consumer product industries.
Customers at participating 7-Eleven fueling stations across the Metro Vancouver Regional District can offset their tailpipe emissions by purchasing the same high-quality fuel. GreenPrint will calculate tailpipe emissions from gasoline sales to determine the amount to invest in certified carbon reduction projects to help offset those emissions. For every litre of fuel purchased as a part of the 7-Eleven RENEW program, an investment will be made in reforestation, green-scape projects, wildlife protection and/or renewable energy projects designed to help offset tailpipe emissions. The local, regional and global certified carbon reduction projects are designed to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Depending on the grade of fuel purchased and the amount and nature of the investments made, tailpipe emissions from the fuel purchased as a part of the 7-Eleven RENEW program may be offset by up to 30 percent.
In addition to that and to go the extra mile, the RENEW program is working with Tree Canada to participate in volunteer projects and to plant trees. To date, as a result of the existing RENEW program in the U.S., more than 70,000 trees have been planted and over 24,000 tons of carbon has been offset.
"It's important to us, as leaders in the industry, to find ways to support our communities, to give back, and to make a difference," said, Nick Angelo, Sr. Director of Operations for 7-Eleven Canada. "This program's proven success in several U.S. states makes it an important strategy to help us meet our corporate social responsibility targets. RENEW furthers our efforts to reduce or offset our environmental footprint and offers customers an opportunity to make an impact and help their local communities."
"7-Eleven is an innovator in the gasoline industry," said Pete Davis, founder and chief executive officer of GreenPrint. "They have proven their commitment to customers and the environment by expanding the RENEW program to Canada, continuing to seek out ways to better the earth and help the local communities where their stores reside."
7-Eleven announced in 2016 that it was working with Conservation International (CI) to set measurable corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals to reduce its environmental footprint. 7-Eleven's CSR mission has three focus areas – planet, products and people. The retailer also joined CI's Business and Sustainability Council, a forum for corporate leaders taking positive environmental actions in their businesses, to explore mutually beneficial ways to further reduce its environmental impact.
