30th Anniversary Celebrations - Arion Baroque Orchestra Unveils its 2010-2011
Season!
MONTREAL, Oct. 14 /CNW/ - Arion Baroque Orchestra, Québec's only early music orchestra playing on period instruments, is proudly gearing up for its 30th season. This upcoming season is going to be fantastic: 35 concerts, a new chamber music series in Montréal, the release of the ensemble's 25th album, C.P.E. Bach Symphonies & Concertos, the recording of two new albums, a new logo, and a completely revamped website. Add to that the election of a new President of the Board along with some new sponsors and you have all the ingredients to make our 30th season a great event!
"I put this 30th season together with the idea of transporting you to new universes, of letting you discover or rediscover musical works, composers, artists, and even musical instruments. My aim in choosing the works for each concert was to allow you to experience the music as it was created and imagined by its composers", adds Claire Guimond, Arion's Artistic Director.
New Disc Release and Two New Recordings
One year after the success of our album Haydn La Passione, Arion's first recording collaboration with British harpsichordist and conductor Gary Cooper, we are delighted to be able to follow up with a second recording with Gary: Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Symphonies & Concerto. This CD is an electrifying and captivating release dedicated to two symphonies for strings and two concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach's second son. Available in stores October 26, C.P.E. Bach Symphonies & Concertos, Np. EMCCD 7771
Two new recordings are also scheduled to come out during our 30th season, the 26 and 27th recordings since our founding:
- End of November 2010: The Passion according to Saint John by J.S. Bach, for Atma classique with the Voix baroques. Recorded in the chapel of the Grand Séminaire de Montréal. Scheduled release date: March 2012.
- January 2011: works by Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Friedrich Fasch on the early-music.com label. Recorded in Saint-Augustin's Church Mirabel Church. Scheduled release date: October 2011.
