20th Anniversary Conference - International Institute of Law Association Chief Executives - Ottawa
OTTAWA, Aug. 30, 2018 /CNW/ - The International Institute of Law Association Chief Executives (IILACE), made up of CEOs from Bar Association and Law Societies from Africa, Europe, North America, Asia and Australia/New Zealand, representing over 1.6 million lawyers will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary at its Annual Conference being held in Ottawa from August 30th to September 1st, 2018 at the Westin Hotel.
Retha Steinman, President of IILACE and the CEO of the Law Society of Namibia, had the following to say of the occasion: "It is very exciting for us to be celebrating our 20th Anniversary, when you think back to 1999 in Edinburgh, Scotland when five people got together to get IILACE off the ground. Now, more than 50 CEOs from around the world belong to IILACE and we will have 40 CEOs from around the world present at our 20th Anniversary Conference here in Ottawa. It will be a time to focus on professional development designed for CEOs of Bar Associations and Law Societies. Also a time for sharing of ideas from around the world as to best practices in overseeing the operations of Bar Associations and Law Societies in the context of the rule of law and human rights."
The Program, chaired by Jonathan Herman, CEO of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada will be extensive. "The sessions will look at the forward-looking Chief Executive, the member-focused Chief Executive, the outward-looking Chief Executive and the inward-looking Chief Executive. This will allow the delegates to look at all aspects of the role of being a CEO", said Jonathan Herman.
The Secretary-General of IILACE, John Hoyles, added "This is an opportunity for Canada to showcase our capital and the strength of our judicial institutions. In addition, Irwin Cotler, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, will share his thoughts at the closing dinner at the House of Commons."
In honour of the 20th Anniversary of IILACE, LexisNexis will announce the first annual LexisNexis Bursary to allow a developing Bar CEO to acquire additional skills.
