QUEBEC CITY, Sept. 16, 2026 /CNW/ -- Élections Québec is inviting electors to make sure their name is on the notice of entry on the list of electors that they will be receiving by mail in the next few days.
Confirming entry is important, as the institution estimates that some 500,000 electors need to be entered on the list of electors or to update their address in order to vote. They will not be able to do so during the advance poll or on election day.
The notice of entry on the list of electors will be in an envelope. It will also indicate where and when it is possible to vote in the advance poll, but you do not need to have the notice in hand to vote. It will be accompanied by the Guide for the provincial election and, for affected electors, a notice of change of electoral division.
You can confirm your entry on the list of electors on Élections Québec's website, as well as check your electoral division.
A reliable list, but not a perfect one
Québec's list of electors is continuously updated. It is reliable: Nearly 94% of electors are estimated to be on it, and nearly 98% of these are registered at their current address. However, this means that:
- More than 400,000 people who have the right to vote are not entered on the list of electors (6% of some 6.8 million potential electors);
- More than 100,000 people are not entered at their current address (2% of the 6.4 million people on the list of electors).
The cooperation of electors is needed: Everyone is responsible for confirming their entry on the list of electors to be able to exercise their right to vote. It will no longer be possible to change your entry or to be entered on the list of electors after October 1, at 2:00 p.m. Electors who are not entered on the list of electors will not be able to vote on election day.
Being entered on or updating your entry on the list of electors
Applications for entry on or for a change to the list of electors can be made online on Élections Québec's website. However, starting on September 22, until October 1, they must be made in person.
During an election period, the Service québécois de changement d'adresse does not allow changes to the list of electors used for the election underway. Electors must therefore apply directly to Élections Québec.
