2026 provincial election: information documents will be sent in French only

Québec City, le 1er sept. 2026 /CNW/ -- For the first time in a general election, electors will receive information documents in French only. The documents sent will include a QR code that will facilitate access to information in English on the Élections Québec website. As a result, anglophones and allophones will be able to consult the information in that language, if needed.

Previously, Élections Québec used French and English to inform electors about how they could exercise their right to vote. It must now give priority to French due to the amendments that An Act respecting French, the official and common language of Québec (PDF) made to the Charter of the French Language.

The information materials

Élections Québec mails three information documents during an election.

• The provincial election guide, which provides information on voting options, among other things;
• The notice of entry, which indicates the persons entered on the list of electors at a specific address, and which provides the address of the advance polling location;
• The reminder card, which includes the list of candidates in the electoral division and indicates the polling place on election day.

The provincial election guide and the notice of entry are sent together. Every address in Québec will receive them no later than the week of September 14. Then, during the week of September 28, the reminder card will arrive in the mailboxes of households where electors are entered on the list of electors.

Exceptions

Certain electors will be able to obtain information in English when they contact Élections Québec:

• Persons declared eligible to receive instruction in English;
• Indigenous people.

To receive services in English, these persons need to indicate to the institution's staff that they can obtain information in that language.
