Celebrating the outstanding achievements of the country's top employers and HR leaders
TORONTO, Sept. 13, 2019 /CNW/ - The winners of the 2019 Canadian HR Awards were revealed last night in front of a record crowd of over 970 HR professionals and business leaders at the Beanfield Centre in Toronto.
The Canadian HR Awards is the biggest annual awards event of its kind, celebrating excellence in the HR profession and recognizing the top employers, HR teams and professionals for their outstanding achievements and best practices.
Sponsored by Ultimate Software in partnership with Human Resources Director Canada, the sold-out event featured representatives from nominated and winning firms including HSBC Bank Canada, AstraZeneca Canada, Left, and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan.
Kin Choi, the Assistant Deputy Minister (Human Resources – Civilian) of the Department of National Defence, was awarded the Queen's University IRC Award for Lifetime Achievement for championing better people management in his extensive public service career, including chairmanship of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety. Meanwhile, Kinaxis CHRO Megan Paterson took home the Human Resources Professionals Association Award (HRPA) for Woman of Distinction.
"HR professionals are vital to the success of their organizations," said Emily Douglas, managing editor of Human Resources Director. "It's wonderful to see their hard work and innovative ideas rewarded on such a special night. I'd like to congratulate this year's hugely diverse range of winners and finalists whose positive impact reflects the very high standard of HR and leadership right across Canada. It's always a pleasure to cheer on the winners as they receive their career-defining awards."
Winner after winner took the stage throughout the evening, telling their stories and sharing the spotlight with their colleagues and peers. Guests were also treated to an unforgettable performance by string quartet Devah, music by Ascension Groove Band, and the comedic stylings of returning host and media personality Jessi Cruickshank.
The winners will be featured in a special awards coverage in the October issue (issue 7.04) of Human Resources Director Canada — giving an in-depth look at the practices of these leading employers and HR champions.
