TORONTO, Jan. 23, 2013 /CNW/ - Indie artists will take center stage on Friday, March 22nd at the Kool Haus in Toronto at the 13th Annual Independent Music Awards - The SiriusXM Indies - during Canadian Music Week activities.
Honouring the year's best in independent music - from the breakout success of Canadians Carly Rae Jepsen, Marianas Trench and deadmau5 to the noteworthy achievements of Internationals fun., The Lumineers and Calvin Harris - the show will award artists across 37 categories and feature special performances from nominated artists, including Matt Mays, Diamond Rings, Yukon Blonde, The Wooden Sky, Canailles, and Cadence Weapon. Award-winning Australian hip-hop artist 360 will make a guest appearance.
Multiple nominees (with seven nominations) Metric saw their fifth album Synthetica debut at #2 on the Canadian Soundscan Album Chart. Their lead album single, Youth Without Youth broke records at radio spending 16 weeks at #1 and the band recently completed their first-ever arena tour across Canada. Metric will headline the SiriusXM Indies with an exclusive concert performance.
The 2013 SiriusXM Indies will be broadcast live for SiriusXM subscribers in Canada and the U.S. on "The Verge" (XM 151) and "Iceberg" (Sirius 151).
English and French winners of the Emerging Artist of the Year categories will receive a $5,000 bursary from SiriusXM Canada.
Both public and industry votes decide the winners. Fans can vote online for their favourites as of Monday, January 28th at www.indies.ca.
