REGINA, May 24, 2012 /CNW/ - The City of Regina's 2012 National Infrastructure Summit agenda is now available online. Register now for the early bird registration fee until May 31, to participate in the discussions and exciting new additions offered in this year's Summit.
The Summit will feature a continuation of the five themes from the 2011 Summit: Defining the Need, Financing the Opportunities, Politics of Infrastructure, Innovation and Citizen Engagement, however, the content of the themes will have a very different focus. The 2012 Themes will focus on practical, innovative, global approaches to infrastructure solutions, rather than the theoretical approaches offered in the 2011 Summit.
Other features new to 2012, found on the Summit agenda, include Casey G. Vander Ploeg, Senior Policy Analyst, Canada West Foundation.
"At the 2011 National Infrastructure Summit, I shared with delegates the research conducted by the Canada West Foundation on innovative financing, funding, and delivery of infrastructure," said Vander Ploeg. "But, getting traction under the wheels of innovation can be difficult, particularly when it is surrounded by prevailing myths that work against change and even traditional policy responses. For the 2012 Summit, I am looking forward to addressing some of the political and communications challenges of infrastructure and doing a little myth-busting. My aim is to help governments better communicate the extent of the challenge and position themselves for successful solutions."
Councillor O'Donnell, Chair of the National Infrastructure Summit, summed up this year's conference by stating, "We are very excited about the new features included in this year's Summit. Not only are we offering a variety of interesting keynote speakers, we are also pleased to include new, innovative features, such as IBM's, "Smart Cities" initiative, and the innovative "Morph My City" Competition, offering all attendees the interactive opportunity to view the most innovative ideas involved with "morphing" neighbourhoods."
In 2011, 350 delegates attended the Summit with 94 per cent of attendees surveyed stating they will be returning in 2012. Time is running out to register for the early bird discount, so register by May 31 to receive a discounted fee.
