New federal investment aims to make energy-efficient heating more affordable and accessible to Canadian households
TORONTO, Nov. 2, 2026 /CNW/ -- 1Click Energy Solutions Inc. ("1Click"), a Canadian provider of residential electrification solutions, is proud to support the federal government's $2-billion National Heat Pump Rebate program, aimed at making energy more affordable for Canadians.
The government has allocated $2 billion over eight years to help up to 820,000 households switch to heat pumps. The program will enable eligible below-median-income homeowners to receive rebates of up to $10,000, while other eligible homeowners may receive up to $2,000.
For 1Click, the announcement represents an important step toward accelerating residential electrification in Canada and expanding access to the technologies needed to move away from fossil fuel-based heating.
Headquartered in Toronto, 1Click helps homeowners switch from fossil fuel-based space heating to electric solutions like cold-climate heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, smart thermostats, and energy recovery ventilator (ERV) systems.
"We've been advancing the case for electrification for many years," said Nathan Horton, Founder and CEO of 1Click. "Our mission is to make home retrofits easier and more affordable, and it's wonderful to see greater policy support for an industry that will be instrumental in helping Canada achieve its net zero goals. This is an important first step, but there's still more work to be done. We would have liked to see air-to-water heat pumps included in the program, particularly given their significant potential for households in Eastern Canada that rely on boiler-based heating systems."
Horton regularly participates in several industry boards, committees, and policy discussions focused on advancing building electrification and supporting the development of effective retrofit programs.
The federal announcement comes as households face ongoing pressure to manage energy costs while preparing for another Canadian heating season. For homeowners who rely on heating oil, propane and other fossil fuels, heat pumps offer an alternative that can provide both heating and cooling and reduce energy costs.
"People are recognizing that upgrading outdated heating equipment is one of the most practical ways to improve efficiency and lower their energy bills," Horton added. "Incentives can help turn this interest into action by reducing upfront installation costs."
The federal government's broader retrofit initiative is also expected to support energy-efficiency upgrades in 280,000 apartment units.
1Click already works with housing providers and organizations involved in residential energy upgrades and sees significant opportunities to expand electrification in multi-unit residential buildings, helping reduce energy costs and improve comfort for residents.
The success of the program will depend on effective implementation, clear eligibility requirements, and close coordination among governments, contractors, service organizations, and other industry partners.
"We welcome the government's commitment to expanding access to heat pumps and recognizing the importance of working collaboratively to make these programs successful. Now, we need to ensure the program is implemented effectively and delivers meaningful, lasting benefits for Canadians," said Clint Sharples, a Partner at First Growth Management, a strategic investor in the company.
"Our industry has been working toward this for years, and we know that well-designed incentives must deliver meaningful value to consumers while remaining practical to administer and implement for the contractors and skilled tradespeople doing the work."
