SLOUGH, England, June 5, 2013 /CNW/ - A set of studies from Deloitte has identified significant potential economic benefits for acute National Health Service (NHS) hospitals in the United Kingdom from a range of bedside IT services provided by Hospedia, who commissioned the work.
Using these studies, Hospedia has calculated that a typical 500 bed hospital could benefit by over $9 million each year by using bedside software systems to improve patient care and streamline clinical workflow. Extending this result across Hospedia's existing 158 sites shows that those hospitals could benefit by over $1.3bn a year. Full copies of the Deloitte reports, upon which Hospedia's estimates have been based, are available upon request, making clear the assumptions upon which their work is based.
Hospedia point of care systems provide patient media, patient engagement and clinical workflow solutions including: electronic meal ordering; real time patient feedback; patient flow management; and direct access to clinical IT systems at the bedside - allowing hospitals to deliver enhanced clinical support to staff and patients at the point of care.
Commenting on the research, Hospedia Chief Executive Tim Weil said:
"We're delighted that the scale of economic benefits Hospedia's services can bring has been recognised in the work conducted by Deloitte, suggesting that these services are capable of delivering financial benefits worth at least $9m per annum in a typical hospital. Our services support not only cost improvement goals but also greater patient engagement and involvement and improvements in patient care - all alongside releasing vital staff hours that can be redirected to frontline care. As we move into international markets with our partner Barco, these innovations ensure that we can lead the way globally in offering a fully integrated patient care solution."
Notes to Editors
The analysis from Deloitte spanned 5 separate reports across 5 key solutions offered by Hospedia to a typical 500 bed hospital. Hospedia has applied the benefits pro-rata to its existing estate and has adjusted for benefits that could be double counted in order to calculate the total potential value. Full copies of the Deloitte reports are available on request and the results of this work should be considered alongside the assumptions and sources that are made clear within these reports.
