SASKATOON, July 23, 2014 /CNW/ - Two and a half years ago Taylor DeVos set out on a journey, which she calls 1 Kid Making a Difference, a journey to help kids in Developing Countries. Her goal was to raise $15,000 to build a school in Haiti. Taylor started by sponsoring a child by the name of Mesline who lives in Haiti. Her passion for writing and learning about Mesline and her country grew which fueled her journey and goal. Taylor is very pleased to announce that she has achieved her goal of raising $15,000. All of the funds will be used for school projects in Haiti.
Taylor and her family created a website and hosted a number of events in their small town in Saskatchewan. "Social Media like Twitter and Facebook has helped Taylor reach people from all over the World", Taylor's mom states. "The support that she has received from all over Saskatchewan and North America has been incredible over the last two years."
In November of 2013 Taylor was asked to speak at We Day in Saskatoon. It was at that time she felt that Free The Children was an organization that she would like to align herself with. "Taylor's donation of $10,000 will be helping build 2 blocks in a new school in Manac Haiti. Each block contains 2 classrooms. "Taylor's donation will play such a huge role in getting this project off the ground and we couldn't be happier that she chose to support Free The Children's school building projects. This is extremely fitting as it is our Year of Education with an organizational goal of building 200 schools in the communities where we work! It has been such a pleasure working with this rock star and we know that she will continue to make this world a better place in any endeavour she pursues" says Sarah Richards of Free The Children. The school is scheduled to begin construction this summer.
Taylor also announced that she is donating $5,000 to the organization that inspired her to create change, World Vision Canada. These funds will be used to assist in building a school in the community of Balan Haiti called the Jaques Romian School Project. "Great Job Taylor! We are so proud of you and thankful for your gift which will go towards changing many children's lives in a sustainable and transformational way. You are a young leader and our passion is to get behind Canadian youth just like yourself, in knowing that they can be a loud voice of hope and change in our world. Thanks for standing with us and being a catalyst" states, Sheri McConnell, Director Youth, Artists and Volunteer Engagement. More funding is needed to complete this project that will see 376 Children attend and have a total of 7 classrooms.
Taylor has set a new goal, to continue raising money to build more schools and send girls to University. Taylor is also thrilled to be launching a clothing line later this year.
