REPENTIGNY, QC, Sept. 18, 2017 /CNW/ - The official opening of Havre du Petit Village took place today, in Repentigny. The four-storey building will provide 100 affordable housing units for semi-independent seniors. The development of this project, which required investments of over $18.5 million, is an initiative of the Coopérative de solidarité Havre du Petit Village.
Featuring multiple common spaces that encourage mutual support and interaction, Havre du Petit Village provides a dynamic living environment for its occupants. In addition to a large community hall with views over the gardens outside, it contains, among other things, facilities for family meetings, a movie theatre, an art studio and a library featuring over 1,000 volumes.
The official opening of the new building was underscored by the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development and Minister responsible for Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Present were: Mr. Dominic Cousineau, Director of Social Housing, Western and Southern Quebec from the Société d'habitation du Québec on behalf of Martin Coiteux, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy, Minister of Public Security and Minister responsible for the Montréal region; and Chantal Deschamps, Mayor of Repentigny.

Highlights
- Through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and the Société d'habitation du Québec (SHQ), the governments of Canada and Quebec provided more than $6.5 million for the construction of this housing project, under the Investment in Affordable Housing Agreement.
- The City of Repentigny provided over $1.9 million for the development of this project. This amount was reimbursed by the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM) through the Fonds du logement social, to which contribute the 82 member municipalities.
- An amount of over $198,000 was granted by Transition énergétique Québec to ensure that the building would meet Novoclimat certification standards.
- The tenants of 50 of the 100 units of this housing project will benefit from the Rent Supplement Program, ensuring that they will not spend more than 25% of their income on housing. This additional assistance of more than $860,000 over five years will be assumed by the SHQ (90%) and the City of Repentigny (10%). The City's share is reimbursed by the CMM.
