Annual award to recognize the municipality with the highest waste
diversion rate in Ontario
TORONTO, Nov. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - Waste Diversion Ontario (WDO) today
announced the creation of the Ron Lance Memorial Award, in honour of a
long standing WDO employee who made a significant contribution to

associations to compile and verify program data and reports on the

programs. His work on the Datacall helped to develop one of North
America's leading databases on residential garbage collection. Mr.
Lance passed away in October 2013.
"Ron was such an important and well respected member of our team both
inside the office and throughout the entire recycling community. We
feel this is a very appropriate way to honour his legacy," said Michael
Scott, CEO, Waste Diversion Ontario.
Each year, WDO requires municipalities to complete the Municipal
Datacall to be eligible for funding for the Blue Box Program. In
addition, WDO requests the submission of tonnage data for all other
waste materials the municipality oversees, including hazardous or
special waste, electrical and electronic, organics, garbage, and
The annual Datacall information is used to determine the municipality

municipality with the highest waste diversion rate will receive the
first annual Ron Lance Memorial Award.
