Trinity Global Support Foundation Opens First "Centre of Hope" at the City of Toronto's Falstaff Community Recreation Centre
TORONTO, May 9, 2012 /CNW/ - The Trinity Global Support Foundation (TGSF) officially opened its first "Centre of Hope" at the City of Toronto's Falstaff Community Recreation Centre (FCRC) this afternoon. TGSF President U. Joe Fontana was on hand for the ceremonies and was joined by approximately 50 children attending the FCRC's after school program.
Centres of Hope are community learning centres with free access to computers and subscriptions to A Learning Community Network (ALCN) portal where some of the most in-demand educational materials are offered online. The purpose of TGSF's Centre of Hope project is to help at-risk youth and disenfranchised young adults obtain the skills required in order to find rewarding employment opportunities and dream a new hope-filled future.
"We intend to facilitate the creation of dozens of brick and mortar 'Centres of Hope' throughout Canada," said Mr. Fontana. "We also intend to launch an online learning centre that will augment these physical locations, thereby extending our reach to more at-risk youth and young adults in need."
TGSF provided six computers, 1,000 subscriptions to ALCN and the necessary training to operate the first Centre of Hope at the Falstaff Community Recreation Centre, which serves individuals of all ages in the City of Toronto's Jane and Finch area, which is a noted high risk area of the City.
"Your contribution to the Falstaff Community Recreation Centre will have an immediate and lasting impact on the surrounding community," said Patrick Shaw, FCRC's Community Recreation Programmer. "You have created the foundation for a lasting legacy that will foster computer literacy and encourage educational growth."
Individuals can enroll at the Centre, free of charge, and will be provided with a subscription to A Learning Community Network (ALCN) portal which includes 1,100 on-line courses in a wide range of subjects from computer technology, human resources and accounting to general business, customer service, and personal development /life skills. ALCN also includes webinars and shared resources, as well as social media tools that will facilitate collaboration among users. For more information about ALCN, visit www.alcn.ca
The Centre of Hope at the Falstaff Community Recreation Centre, located at 50 Falstaff Avenue in Toronto, is open Monday to Friday from 1 to 8 p.m.
