TORONTO, Oct. 2, 2015 /CNW/ - Two-time Olympic silver medalist Elvis Stojko is taking off his skates to join the March.
In tandem with over 110 cities worldwide, the Global March for Elephants & Rhinos takes to Toronto streets Sunday, October 4th, to draw attention to the senseless slaughter of these magnificent creatures.
"Both my wife and I are passionate animal lovers," explained Mr Stojko. "By being part of this march, we hope to bring more awareness and inspire people with influence and power to help these creatures flourish once again on our great planet."
With one elephant killed every 15 minutes on the African continent, their extinction looms within ten years. The population of 1.5 million elephants has been reduced to fewer than 400,000. It is estimated that only 25,000 rhinos remain in the wild.
The Toronto March will begin at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 4th, Bell Trinity Square (behind The Eaton Centre) and work its way down Bay Street, along Queen, up Spadina and return to the Square via College and Beverley Streets.
